Untamed Elegance : A Leopard Portrait

This highly detailed leopard portrait captures the raw power and sharp focus of one of nature's finest predators in a three-quarter view. Drawn over the course of 25-30 hours, this piece explores the striking contrast between deep shadows and intense light.

The Story Behind The Art

What began as an inspired sketch from a National Geographic's cover and the first of the set of these drawings { Mirrors of the Soul} quickly turned into a dedicated obsession. These drawing evolved into a vital part of my artistic process. I create these precise black-and-white studies to master the intricate bone structure, muscle alignment, and fur patterns of the animal before ever touching a paintbrush. It stands alone as a powerful finished Piece, while giving you a direct look into the foundational study of my wildlife art.

Artistic Technique

Every strand of fur and texture is built up using just three specialized tools: A stark black Prisma color pencil, a smooth Ebony pencil for rich mid-tones, and a thick mechanical pencil with a semi soft light lead to shade all the way out to the brilliant highlights being the raw untouched paper itself. There is only two of the Drawings in the set so far that have any Ink in them. That is the backgrounds of the Tiger and the Pronghorn antelope which are done with a brush pen.
